Now is the time to consider sprucing up your exterior landscaping. Fall is a good time to do some judicious pruning to trees and shrubs. Trees especially prefer large scale trimming when the weather is cooler. It is also a good time to start cleaning up debris that is left over from perennials dying back and to pull annual flowers past their prime. It is important to remove this litter as insects and other critters use this as cover and can cause problems in the future. Check the depth of your mulch now too. If you don’t have at least one inch of nice mulch, this is a good time to add where needed to help plants overwinter better, especially perennial root balls.
